About us

From farm to lodge, our story
On a high-country station near the Ashburton Lakes, Mt Potts Lodge carries the history of an old woolshed turned into a homely retreat. We’re farmers who took it on to keep its story alive, bringing with us a love for the land and a genuine care for our guests. Our lodge is a place for travellers to eat well, rest easy, and get a dose of some of the best landscapes our beautiful country has to offer.

Simple comforts in big country
Remote and off-grid
With no Wi-Fi and little phone reception, Mt Potts is about switching off and making the most of what New Zealand has to offer. Experience Canterbury’s most remote lodge-style accommodation.
Eat well, sleep well
From fresh baking and home-style meals to a drink by the fire, there’s plenty here to keep bellies full. Rooms range from cosy bunks to private cottages - with spots for solo travellers, families, and groups.
Our history
First explored by Thomas Potts in the 1800s, the station grew through years of musterers, shearers and farming families. In the 1960s the woolshed, once central to station life, became the lodge.

Where the mountains meet the water
Bordering the Main Divide with Mt Cook National Park on the horizon, the Mt Potts region is shaped by tussock, rivers and snow-fed peaks. The Ashburton Lakes spread out around the lodge, with the Rangitata River below. Just minutes away is Mt Sunday, known worldwide as Edoras in The Lord of the Rings.
Remote as it feels, the lodge is just over an hour from Ashburton, an hour from Methven, or a little more than two hours from Christchurch.
We care for our land as it cares for us - so no fires, no smoking outside in dry spells, and please stay off the farmland.
